Common DSL Modem Error Codes

Error 678 – The remote computer did not respond.

This is normally due to one of the following reasons:

  • There is noise on the phone line. (check jack with regular telephone, if there is static, popping or crackling, contact your phone company)
  • Your DSL Modem is not in synch with the DSL circuit. (If the READY or DSL light is flashing – try resetting modem by turning it off and then back on again after 30 seconds. If this does not fix the issue, contact support @ YOUR ISP)
  • The Network Cable has come unplugged from either the computer or the DSL Modem. (Check the cable)
  • The Network Interface Card (NIC) has been disabled on your PC. (Go to your control panel, under Network Connections and check to see if your LOCAL AREA CONNECTION is disabled. If it is, Right Click and Enable.)

Error 619/691 – Username or Password is Incorrect.

This is normally due to one of the following reasons:

  • Your USERNAME is missing or incorrectly spelled. (Erase and retype your username.)
  • Your PASSWORD is missing or incorrectly spelled. (Erase and retype your password.)
  • Sometimes your username and password may appear to be correct, but still fail. (If this is the case, simple erase both fields and press the BACKSPACE and DELETE keys a few extra times to remove hidden erroneous spaces and retype both your USERNAME and PASSWORD.)
